This was a college project to study a favorite graphic designer. I have always admired Paula Scher's use of typography and use of color.
I used Paula Scher as my inspiration for this large billboard for a softball stadium.
I wanted to try a new style that involved an urban/shabby chic feel to draw a younger generation.
Laura O'Neal-Kemp was born on January 8 in Longmont, Colorado. Laura brings over fourteen years of production and design experience in print media. A 1998 graduate of Marshall University with a degree in fine arts specializing in graphic design. Throughout my career I have continually employed unique and creative means of design to bring out the most effective presentation for the client. My objective is to not only come up with an impressive finished product, but to also continually challenge myself with new opportunities. I would like to secure a position that recognizes my existing strengths in print media within an organization that encourages employees to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to new and improved means of design in both the print and digital media.
Over the past twelve years I have demonstrated my abilities through progressively more difficult responsibilities. I successfully met those challenges through clients’ desire to continue their professional relationship as a means of successfully communicating their message to their target audience(s).
The skills I could immediately bring to the position are a significant level of experience designing print media. I am an advanced user of CS5. I am ready to apply my technical and intangible skills of creativity in a new and challenging position.
The wonderful group from London forming in 1977 – Sting (Gordon Sumner), Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland – The Police, is in my opinion one of the best things that have happened in music in the twentieth century.
I also love Coldplay, Moby, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Blue October, The Killers, Adele, Muse, Gorillaz and many more!
To Kill a Mockingbird (Harper Lee), The Birth of Venus (Sarah Dunant), The Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd), Bee Season (Myla Goldberg), Lucky (Alice Sebold), Watership Down (Richard Adams), Girl With a Pearl Earring (Tracey Chevalier), Good in Bed (Jennifer Weiner)
I was very close to going into photography instead of graphic design. I grew up with photography. My dad had a dark room in our basement. He used a medium format Rolleiflex (which I own now). I loved learning in the darkroom. Now digital photography has made people lazy.
I post many photos on my flickr account. Message me if you would like me to add you on my contact list.

I’m always excited when I see a new form of artwork; especially when it’s a found art. This art is sort of sad to me since it’s other people’s trash combed from a beach in the San Francisco area. Richard Lang and Judith Selby Lang create these beautiful pieces of art as a reminder — Plastic is forever. : (
I was browsing some used books my MIL brought my son today. I was really taken by this book:
Seeing this book is really motivating and inspiring me to write/illustrate something like this!! I love the simple shapes, the bright and brilliant colors and concept!
